 BRUSSELS, Belgium –  The quintessentially British brand Hackett has been flying the Union Jack high internationally for many years and so it is fitting that in this, a Jubilee year, Her Majesty The Queen has honoured Hackett with a 2012  Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade.   The Award is approved by Her Majesty, on the recommendation of the UK Prime Minister and the official announcement is made on The Queen’s birthday, 21st April 2012.

What does this mean for folks like you and me?  Don’t even think about leaving London this summer while visiting the Olympic games without taking back home a Hackett sports shirt in hand. And a Michael Morpurgo, winner of several prestigious awards — The Whitbread Children’s Book Award, The Smarties Prize, and Prix Sorcieres to name just a few —  book wouldn’t be bad either to pack away.  Another reason to become a Michael Morpurgo fan:  He wrote the story concept for Wenlock and Mandeville the official mascots for the 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralymics Games.

AMSTERDAM, Holland — This past Monday, April 30 just about everyone in the Netherlands ( including your stepmother) celebrates Queen’s Day.  Literally thousands of people, mostly in Amsterdam, are dressed in the color orange ( national color of Holland) and flock to the streets to celebrate the birthday of their Queen, Beatrix.
