AT HOME: WATERLOO, Cirque du Soleil and More

AT HOME: This coming weekend it will be all gunfire and smoke filling the air when the Battle of Waterloo comes alive in a re-enactment of Napoleon’s 1815 defeat. Staged each year on the weekend closest to June 18, around 600 war buffs from all over the world decked out in period costumes and military attire gather on the beautiful rolling fields of the historical battlefield. And speaking of beautiful rolling fields this photo above was taken across the street from the Battle of Waterloo. We can't wait to participate in all the fun this weekend. How about you? BRUSSELS, Belgium –  It is gorgeous weather today and to be honest I love Belgium during the month of June.  There are so many fun activities to enjoy around town during the month of June –  I can’t pack all the fun into my calendar.  I always seem to need extra pages for my calendar during the month of June.   For example did you know…

—  There is a new ceramic art cafe in town called Lollipop.  The place is gorgeous.  And they have an adorable outside cafe filled with lots of children’s toys,  a mini-playground and the most adorable patio chairs to sit on that I have yet to see around town.  Opened all day and night on Sunday.  Ideal place for birthday parties. Enjoy!

Lollipop Ceramic Art Cafe: Open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Hours: 11am - 6:30pm; Friday 2:00pm - 9:30pm

—  Have you heard about the new rave, yet?  And like all great things that are super cool it hails from Sweden.  I haven’t figured out exactly how it  all works, but it is some form of exercise.   I’ll be taking my first class tomorrow.  Interested to join me?  Already know about this hot new rave? –  Did you know we have a division of the London Academy of Music and  Dramatic Arts ( LAMDA) here in Brussels?   The instructors are simply brilliant with young children.    And this summer the LAMDA Belgium chapter will be  offering a summer stage at the World International School from July 9 – 13.  Click here for more details.

–  Last night in Antwerp was the super cool opening for Corteo, a Cirque du Soleil production.  Don’t worry if you missed it.  Relax.  The fellas are in town until AUGUST 5th.  Yes.  Not a miss print.  August 5th.

A little bit about CORTEO:  A grand procession and festive parade imagined by a clown with awesome acrobatics.  A theatrical world of comedy and spontaneity situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth.  Corteo reveals the strength and fragility of a clown, as well as his wisdom and kindness, to illustrate the portion of humanity that is within each of us. — Lynn McLarty
